The Importance of Starting Somewhere

Distraction is the most common trait shared of all humans. We could be talking with one person, but also texting, instagramming, facebooking, tweeting, etc., while also thinking about our to-do lists that are forever on going. Yet we still want to be our best self and be the most successful self we can be...all right in this very second.

I'll admit. It's happening to me right this second too.

Regardless, the point of this post is to show that some distractions are needed in life because at least you are starting somewhere and learning something that could lead you on this unknown, beautiful path.

Recently, I took the leap to move from Massachusetts down to Baltimore. Being a customer service rep in Baltimore, MD isn't necessarily what I pictured my first post-college job to be like, but I am starting somewhere. I have ambitions. I have goals. I have a vision, but I have also changed my mind about where and what my next steps would be about a million times. Ultimately, I have learned that pulling myself away from my overall life goal has helped me find these cool distractions that I wouldn't have found otherwise. It's lead me on this new path, with new adventures. I changed my perception of believing in instant success, which I selfishly used to think.

This first step out of college may look like it just fell in my lap. Which in a way did, but realistically because I did my research. I starting building up my personal brand and really digging into my "why". I've realized, and followed my instinct, that working as a CSR for Under Armour would be my starting point. Through their two week training program, I have already been able to expand on my business degree and apply it to real life and things I am passionate about; athletics. I still keep the possible next steps of this journey in the back of my mind, but right now, I am focused on this first distraction on my stepping stones. (A good oxymoron for you to think about.) If you asked me even three months ago, I couldn't have told you this is where I would be today. And on a super plus side, the job is more challenging, rewarding, and unpredictable (in a good way - each problem takes a different way to resolve every time you pick up the phone; Keeps you on your toes and learning everyday) than I could have imagined.

Your First Goals:

1. Put yourself in the best position to be successful - Take the time to understand your passions, your why, and your values.

2. Create small wins - Nobody gets to their most successful self overnight. It takes time and determination. Start small.

3. Believe in yourself - If you don't believe in yourself, how will you convince others to?

It's all about the journey, and what you make of it.
